Diamond Cut is the most difficult to understand and determine of the four C’s that make up the quality of a diamond or any other precious stone. It is very often and erroneously referred to as the shape of a diamond. The Cut however refers to an elaborate combination of technical parameters of s diamond, with the aim to describe the quality of the diamond in terms of its craftsmanship, or very simply, how well was it polished. A Heart Shaped Diamond, for instance, may be cut shallow or deep, dull or brilliant. The Heart Shape remains, while the Cut may differ significantly. The finer the cut, the greater the brilliance and fire of the diamond and the more expensive the stone. The GIA Cut grading scale goes from Excellent to Poor, giving an indication on how well the stone is polished.
